The arrangements for diving
at Eyemouth are certainly the best in the area.
There are 5 seals that live in the immediate vicinity
of the harbourand are often seen on the
surface and during dives.
You don’t have to go to exotic
foreign places to dive with large marine mammals. There
is even a resident dolphin around the rocks just outside
the harbour approaches!
The New Harbour Buildings provide an ideal
base for diving in the St. Abbs and Eyemouth Marine Reserve
area, with superb facilities, free parking, hot showers and
easy access into the shore dive site. No clambering over the
rocks here!
The following few pages describe some of the excellent local
dive sites, but you can walk into the sea anywhere and still
have a superb dive!
The local dive sites can be divided into three categories:
The shore diving opportunities from Eyemouth include
the easiest diving in the area, from the shore on the south side
of the harbour entrance. These sites are very handy for the dive
centre and can be accessed easily with excellent parking close the
entry points. Other sites, on the north side of the harbour entrance
require a little more effort to descend the cliffs.
The shore diving opportunities from St. Abbs harbour
are more widely known, but involve rather more effort to enter the
water. The harbour car park can be full at peak times and is expensive.
Boat dives can be taken from Eyemouth or St. Abbs
and can take in sites from Pettico Wick north of St. Abbs to the
various bays south of Eyemouth. Journey times by RIB are usually
less then half that for a hard boat.
